Hi, I’m Nurse Natalie 👋🏾

I love helping black families prep for pregnancy through early parenthood & postpartum care.

🤰🏾➡️🤱🏾

I spent 7+ years as a Labor & Delivery nurse now I help moms & birthing people just like you prepare for their hospital delivery as a doula and childbirth educator.

With degrees in Psychology from Harvard and Nursing from Johns Hopkins, and my love for birthwork, I am ready, willing, and able to help you prep for childbirth.

With me as a part of your birth team you’ll get:

🎓 - the knowledge & experience of a nurse

💗 - the heart & compassion of a doula

💪🏾 - the expertise & confidence of a childbirth educator

✨ - and the cultural references/jokes of a DefJam comic

What clients are saying….

  • Natalie is incredibly down to earth and genuine, and I immediately felt like I could be myself with her. I have complete confidence in her expertise, and it felt reassuring to have someone on my side who has experienced so many births first hand.

  • As a first time pregnant person, I really had no clue what to expect at the hospital or during labor and delivery. nobody sits down with you and really goes over what it looks like to start labor, arrive at the hospital, get checked out, and experience the various stages of the birthing process.

  • There were questions I didn't even know I wanted to ask until Natalie walked me through everything. I wasn't sure what my various options would be once at the hospital, but she made me aware of the choices that may come up so I could prepare.

FAQs

  • Because the Black maternal health crisis still is getting plenty of attention, but few people are offering any solutions. I want to be part of the solution - not part of the chorus that is raising its voice to scare but not HELP Black women & birthing people.

    Also…because I can 💅🏾

I’m being a bit fresh, but the truth is I love birthwork, being a Black woman, and being in community with other Black women. So it was a no-brainer to focus on us.

But this course is only one of my offerings; I’m an equal-opportunity educator and have worked with people across all races, ethnicities, and nationalities and I intend to continue to do so…just not with Baby Steps, this one is for us. Shout out to Solange!

  • Because I know them like the back of my hand! I not only worked as a staff nurse at 3 hospitals, but I also was a travel nurse and worked per diem at an additional seven hospitals across four states. I DO THIS!

Plus, 98% of children born in the USA are born in a hospital - that means there are a lot of women & birthing people who need information not only about childbirth, but about childbirth in a hospital…because it is horse of a different color!

When I was a Labor & Delivery nurse, I noticed that even when patients had childbirth education, they hadn’t been instructed about the practicalities of being a patient in a hospital. So they were surprised by aspects of hospital care that are fairly standard, like getting an IV or continuous fetal monitoring.

  • Freaking EVERYTHING!

Helping women transition from pregnancy to parenthood is an honor.

But my absolute favorite thing is the amazed yet triumphant “I did it” look on women’s faces after delivering their baby. Witnessing their strength and well-earned pride never gets old. 🥹
